Roger Eugene Wilcoxson, age 79, of Jefferson City, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 14, 1933, in Harrison County, Missouri, the son of Everett Glen and Miriam Madonna (Haskins) Wilcoxson. On September 27, 1953, Roger was united in marriage to Wilma Louise Jones, who survives at their home.
Roger attended elementary school at Green Valley and Eagleville and graduated from Eagleville High School in 1951. He attended Boise Junior College, Boise, Idaho, and Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville, Missouri, before serving in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He received both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of Missouri and was employed by the University of Missouri Extension as a Youth Specialist for 33 years.
Roger was a member of the Jackson Jaycees, Jackson Rotary Club, Christian Motorcyclists Association, New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Wilma, are his children Terri Myer (Mark), Fenton, Missouri and Kathleen “Kathy” Wilcoxson of Jefferson City; grandchildren Jaime (Sam) Marshall; Justin Myer; Tyson Myer; Jonathan Myer; and Kelsey Jo Vogler; and great-grandchildren Grace Marshall; Aslyn Marshall; and Preston Myer; brother Darrel (Carol) Wilcoxson; sister Celesta (Paul) Taylor; sisters-in-law Waneta Wilcoxson and Dixie Wilcoxson. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sibling Lavern, Dwane and Bob Wilcoxson.
Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Additional visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, with funeral services immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard with Rev. Tom Vansant officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
